Yak farm in North Sikkim

With the implementation of conservation programme initiated by the Department of AH,LF&VS,GOS under Yak Development Programme, it has been observed that the program has been successful and very much beneficial to the yak farmers in improving their indigenous yak through this genetic up gradation programme in terms of quantity and quality of breed in the field. New off spring produced in the field through our breeding stock has shown a satisfactory performance in terms of genetic traits viz body size, body conformation, inter calving period and milk yield etc. As such, the programme is continuously being implemented in the yak rearing areas in order to conserve this threatened breed and simultaneously improving the breed in eco friendly environment for economic return to the highlanders through this yak husbandry.
